Flow Assurance

Flow Assurance Competence Center provides flow assurance studies and analyses for subsea production and processing systems from early phase to operation. The typical types of analysis include feasibility studies, conceptual design, preliminary design, detailed design and support to operations.

Work performed includes thermal and hydraulic analysis involving both steady state and dynamic simulations. Analyses range from individual system components up to complete production systems with multiple wells and flowlines.

Typical topics of analysis provided by the Flow Assurance Competence Center are:

- Tubular and flowline sizing
- Thermal design
- Wax, scale, and asphaltene deposition
- Sensor selection and location
- Erosion assessments
- Hydrate prevention and mitigation
- Flow induced vibration

Flow assurance analysis is critical to ensure that a field is efficiently developed and operated throughout its lifetime, thereby maximizing recovery through optimal production planning and operation. According to an industry survey by Welling & Company (Sept 2008), flow assurance is ranked as the No. 1 priority by oil and gas operating companies among various technical challenges affecting completions in deep water.
