BG Hibiscus

Trinidad and Tobago

Landmark: The BG Hibiscus is BG's development of the north coast marine area in Trinidad and Tobago.

The BG Group-operatred NCMA Development, located 25 miles (40 km) off the north coast of Trinidad, includes four gas fields: Hibiscus, Poinsettia, Chaconia and Ixora. In April 2000, a Unitization Agreement was signed, and in December 2000 the Government of Trinidad and Tobago approved the development of the first three fields. These fields are being developed in up to four phases to supply gas to Atlantic LNG Trains 2, 3 and 4.

The Hibiscus platform as successfully installed in September 2001, in a water depth of 492 ft (150 m). The 67 mile (107 km), 24-inch pipeline from the NCMA development to the Atlantic LNG plant is the longest pipeline in Trinidad and Tobago. Debottlenecking in September 2003 increased capacity of the pipeline to 30 percent above the original design.

The Ixora prospect was drilled and successfully completed in July 2003 as part of drilling operations on the Hibiscus and Chaconia fields.

The next phase of development will involve the drilling and completion of the first subsea development well in the southwestern part of the Hibiscus field. Future NCMA developments include further appraisal and subsequent development of the Eastern Hibiscus and Poinsettia fields.
