Landmark: The Petrobras Cottonwood project uses a 15,000 psi long-distance tieback in the Gulf of Mexico.
Petrobras America, Inc. selected FMC Technologies to supply subsea drilling and production equipment for the Cottonwood project, which is its first subsea development project in the Gulf of Mexico. The Cottonwood field is located in the Garden Banks 244 block of the Gulf of Mexico, in water depth 2,200 ft (670 m). The field gas reserves was developed with three subsea wells equipped with 15,000 psi enhanced horizontal subsea trees, pipeline end terminations and production control system. The production is transported 17 miles (27 km) via subsea pipelines to the host production platform.
The subsea drilling equipment and production system were supplied by FMC. Petrobras America, Inc. is the operator of the field, with Mariner Energy, Inc. as partner with 20 percent interest in the project. FMC Technologies was pleased to be selected by Petrobras for this fast-track subsea development in the Gulf of Mexico. FMC and Petrobras have a long-term relationship from working together on challenging projects that date back 30 years. Production from the Cottonwood field started in the first quarter of 2007.
