U.K. Block 30/7a

Landmark: FMC Technologies’ first horizontal subsea tree

Located in the North Sea in 260 ft (80 m) of water, the Judy Joanne project is a six-well subsea development. Commercial oil production from Judy Joanne began in April 1997, with gas sales beginning in June 1997. After being processed on the Judy platform, gas is transported through the CATS pipeline and liquids are exported to Teesside through the Norpipe system.

During the bi-annual shutdown of the J Block, completed in September 2003, an upgrade of the Joanne field subsea control system and major overhaul of one of its compression trains took place.

The Judy Joanne project was a benchmark in many ways. Total weight of the integrated deck was dramatically reduced by the use of glass-reinforced epoxy piping and other innovative uses of technology when commercial requirements necessitated the addition of a gas injection system to the platform. The module was designed, built and installed in a record breaking nine months.
