Shell Draugen

Norway Block 6407/9

Landmark: World’s first multiphase subsea pumps

The Draugen Subsea Well Facilities Contract was the largest subsea EPC contract in Norway at the time. All subsea installations were designed for diverless installation operation and maintenance. Interface standardization was emphasized throughout the project and resulted in a minimum of intervention tools. The seabed pumps (i.e., system integration of Framo pumps) were the world’s first commercial multi-phase pump installation.

The Draugen subsea well facilities comprises two four-slot water-injection templates with three trees each, two oil production satellite wells and one gas injection satellite well. The subsea well facilities are tied back to the field center, which is a fixed, gravity-based, mono-column concrete (GBS) platform installed at 920 ft (280 m).
