Woodside Angel

Woodside Angel

Western Shelf Australia

Landmark: Woodside's first unmanned platform

As part of the planned expansion of the North West Shelf, Woodside Energy Ltd. will develop the Angel gas/condensate field, located approximately 30 miles (49 km) east of the North Rankin A platform. The Angel reservoir is expected to produce 1.85 Tcf gas and 84 MMbbls condensate with strong aquifer support. The Angel design production rate of 800 MMscfd will be produced from three subsea wells. Design life for the subsea system will be 20 years. The operational production life of an Angel well is estimated to be seven to eight years.

Fluids from the wells will be processed through a new not normally manned platform, located in the Angel field, that provides gas dehydration and condensate dewatering facilities. A carbon steel export pipeline will transport water dry hydrocarbon gas and liquid and will be tied into the first trunkline.

The subsea development comprises three satellite subsea production wells individually connected back to the Angel platform by dedicated steel flowline and electro-hydraulic control umbilical. The subsea trees are a large-bore 7” conventional tree design, with 18-¾” interface to both the workover riser system and wellhead. A separate flow module located on the tree features integrated choke and instrumentation.

An important strategy concerning the Angel subsea production system is to adopt standardized subsea equipment solutions for both Perseus over Goodwyn (POG) and Angel projects and to utilize the same MODU for drilling and completing all seven wells. As such, the Angel subsea wellheads, tubing hangers, flowbases, tree systems and subsea control modules are identical to POG. Angel also makes use of the POG workover riser system, installation, intervention and running tools.
