The following safety innovations reduce exposure to unnecessary risks at customer operations in the field and at FMC service facilities.


Hammerless Union 

Hammerless Union  The hammerless union is the next generation of union products targeted at eliminating the use of sledge hammer in making up high pressure temporary flowline connections in the field.
This product is offered as an alternative to the wing union and addresses all hammer related problems. It minimizes opportunities for accidents while providing a viable solution that could be quickly and easily implemented. Every detachable wing union connection can be easily upgraded to the new Hammerless connection by merely replacing the existing wing nut with a hammerless nut. No other changes to the existing iron are required!

Plug Valve Bar 

Plug Valve Bar  FMC Technologies products are designed with one major goal in mind; to promote safety by providing more efficient operational tools to our customers. In the past, operators have been using any bar they could find in the field, such as old and used sucker rods, to open or close plug valves. The problem was that the bar would slip out of the bar cap or out of the operator’s hands causing serious injuries.

With the help and input from its customers, FMC Technologies has developed three plug valve operating bars (1”- 2”-3”, 1”-2” and 1"-2" Bent), which are specifically designed to open or close plug valves eliminating the use of incorrect and unsafe bars.

2” Figure 602/1502 Union Mismatch 

 Union Mismatch

The mixing of 2" Figure 602 and 1002 components with 2" Figure 1502 union components has been known to cause serious pressure incidents over the years. Previous solutions to the issue have focused on training and communication. While these remain very important components of accident prevention, FMC Technologies is implementing a change to components with the 2" Figure 602 and 1002 female subs that will eliminate the possibility of the female subs being mismatched with a 2" Figure 1502 wing nut. This change involves reducing the major thread diameter so the female sub will not engage the internal thread of the wing nut. The strength of the connection is not compromised by this change.

The new female subs will also have a raised shoulder behind the thread marked appropriately to help identify the new parts. It is anticipated that this change will occur on parts manufactured beginning in summer of 2007.

Enclosed Test Cells 

Test Cell Body  FMC Technologies’ Integrated Services team is always looking for new ways to promote safety, increase productivity, and improve efficiency in order to help customers worldwide achieve the maximum value from their flowline products. One of various services that Integrated Services’ mobile units perform is hydrostatic pressure testing of flowline equipments. This process used to be performed in a semi-enclosed environment using test barriers, which can create some problems if not done properly.
