Market Characteristics
The Asia Pacific region of subsea activity is mainly concentrated in Australia, Indonesia, India and Malaysia; however, other countries such as China, India, Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam have had some activity. The Asia Pacific region has the least number of installed subsea completions, but is the region with the highest growth rate.
Although these are some large field development projects in the region, most of the projects historically have been marginal shallow-water subsea developments under 400 m (1,300 ft) and have well pressures which typically do not exceed 5,000 psi with less than six wells. There are currently several deep water 10,000 psi large well count projects in the region either under development or in appraisal/FEED study phase. Asia's largest subsea developments which have been supplied by FMC Technologies are: BP Liuhua in offshore China and Woodside's Enfield in offshore Australia.
The most active operators are BHP Billiton, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Murphy, Reliance, Shell and Woodside. FMC hold a frame agreement with Woodside in Australia and a supply agreement with Shell in Malaysia, two of the most active operators in the region.
