Polk Power Station

Polk Power Station

FMC Technologies supplied the coal handling system to the Polk Power Station in Tampa, Florida.

The plant consists of two units producing 250 MW of electricity. The system includes mainly truck receiving and reclaim conveyors.

Coal is delivered to the facility by means of high capacity trucks and unloaded into the unloading hoppers. From the unloading hoppers, the coal is withdrawn by a belt feeder to a truck unloading conveyor at a rate of 400 STPH. The truck unloading conveyor conveys and discharges the coal to either the first silo or onto a silo feed conveyor that transfers it to a second silo.

Two reversible belt feeders located under the silos, convey coal to either of two portable belt conveyors or two reclaim conveyors. The reclaim conveyors transport up to 400 STPH of coal to the 200 metric tons surge bin. Each of the two outlets of the surge bin is provided with pneumatic slide gates, which allow the coal to be transferred to coal weigh feeders.
