Composite spring balancing mechanisms are recommended for most Chiksan® truck & railcar loading arm applications. The advantages, both financial and technical, far outweigh those of ordinary balancing systems.
The composite spring balancing device is a proprietary compound specifically developed to balance Chiksan truck & railcar loading arms. This exclusive material employs a precise mixture of glass fiber and epoxy resins.
The primary technical advantages of glass fiber are all incorporated in the FMC product:
- Mechanical resistance
- Insensitive to thermal variations and humidity
- Fiber glass does neither degrade, nor rust
- Resistant to chemical action
The counterbalancing mechanical function is restricted to only three components: two axles and one spring, whereas torsion spring and other spring balanced mechanisms are composed of a spring, linkage, pins, axles, bearings etc, with subsequent friction resistance and subject to wear, fatigue and corrosion.
Benefits
They are both more compact and lighter, making the arms easier and safer to handle even in the most severe applications. In terms of safety, reliability, low maintenance and life expectancy they are unrivalled on today's market when compared to the existing mechanical balancing systems.
