FMC Emergency Release System (ERS)
A positive means to quickly isolate, release, and move the Chiksan marine loading arm away from the vessel being offloaded. The ERS is installed in a vertical position within the style 80 (terminal) swivel joint of the arm. It is composed of two isolating valves and a Powered Emergency Release Coupler (PERC) that is installed in between the two isolating valves. The choice of the valves used depends on the product handled. For LNG at -160°C, it is recommended to use ball valves. The ERS may be either automatic, manually controlled or both in the event of arm overdrift.
