Job Description PURPOSE:
Summarize briefly the major function and purpose of the position.
The Network Engineer role will provide support for FMC Technologies Western Hemisphere communications infrastructure including: Cisco equipment (LAN, WAN, WLAN), Cisco VOIP, MPLS, telecommunications, voicemail, Juniper firewalls, Websense content filtering. This position is a combination of 70% operations and 30% project work. Direct interface with customers is required on a daily basis. Additional responsibilities will include documenting operations, improving operational efficiencies and working to improve security. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity participation will be required for data and voice communications.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position? (I.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training etc.)

• BS in Computer Science or related field, preferred
• Must have at least 5 years of experience
• Cisco certification is preferred – CCNA, CCNP, CCIE
• Providing technical support of existing LAN/WAN infrastructure that consists of some or all of the following:
o Cisco Routing and Switching technologies
o Cisco Unified Communications Systems
o Cisco Autonomous and Lightweight Access Points
o Websense Security Products
o Juniper SSG Firewalls
o Riverbed Steelheads
o F5 Load Balancers
o Microsoft knowledge / experience is a plus (Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS , Exchange and SQL)
• Must be proficient in LAN/WAN Service management with hands on knowledge of the following tools:
o SolarWinds Orion
o Riverbed Cascade
o Cisco Operations Manager
o Fluke/WireShark Packet Analyzers.
o Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project

• Must have experience with Cisco Presence and Microsoft communications technologies
• Must have experience with QOS policy settings
• Ability to transfer subject matter expertise and strong ability to persuade are important in this role.
• Ability to define deadlines and manage priorities of self, team and/or project is critical.
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and coaching, and respond appropriately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English is critical
• Ability to work independently on more varied and complex tasks and/or functional leadership without direct supervision as needed, while providing expertise and guidance to less experienced individuals.

This position is a member of the Network Infrastructure Support Team. No direct reports.

• Manager - Daily operational meetings to discuss current and pending issues and works to resolve and expedite resolution


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:

Explain the degree of supervision/guidance, procedures/ processes used, judgment, creativity, planning & resourcefulness needed to do the job.

Receives direction from infrastructure manager and team lead to set broad objectives, interpret policy issues and develop new concepts. Candidate will be a technical resource within the Infrastructure team and be responsible for contributing toward the design, architecture and support of WAN, LAN, DNS,
Network Security, VOIP, Wireless, and network management tools. This includes planning,
implementation, transition and operations of equipment and services for all the above responsibilities in the corporate office and remote sites. Uses independent judgment and must
consistently demonstrate creativity and innovation to find solutions to multi-faceted and/or time
sensitive, complex problems.

How are errors detected and what is possible impact of those errors?

• Under Managerial guidance, makes appropriate decisions to handle system errors that are either detected through monitoring and/or reported from user community. Must make timely decisions to handle downtime situations that could halt production as a result of system failures.
• Participates in Local and Regional Change Review Boards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Describe general working conditions (i.e. noise level, temperature, around heavy machinery)
Office and industrial shop environments. Certain working areas could require safety equipment such as steel toe boots and eye protection. Occasional travel outside of Houston base to remote sites, supplier locations, committee meetings or conferences. Travel is usually for 1 week increments and generally 6 times per year. Travel to offices throughout the Houston area is daily.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Describe amount & frequency of physical requirements of the position (i.e. lifting, pushing, climbing)
Frequent sitting and operating a computers. Lifting and installing network equipment and servers.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Identify the major duties and tasks accomplished by this position. For each duty, identify if it is an E - essential function or N - nonessential function of the job.
E/N Duties and Responsibilities
E Manage daily operations and troubleshooting of network and voice issues
E Evaluate new and existing data, VoIP, wireless and security network infrastructure
E Update tickets for all issues
E Work with Network Operations Team, Systems Team, Network Support Team, Helpdesk and Deskside teams to identify and resolve any network and voice related issues.
E Develop and maintain system and procedural documentation for network infrastructure and communication systems
E Provide project management support for moves/adds/changes to the telecommunications systems and data networks
E Provide support of Cisco-based voice solutions, routers, switches, gateways, security solutions, wireless solutions and network management solutions across WAN/LAN.
E Provide recommendations on architectural changes and design enhancements to the infrastructure to improve reliability, performance, reduce cost, and anticipate company growth and acquisition.
E Assist in the creation / update policies, procedures, and documentation to adapt to new technologies and business requirements
E Maintain knowledge of company network standards and the overall local, regional and global network environments
E Coordinates with communication service providers for installation, upgrade and disconnect of data and voice circuits and account management/maintenance agreements.
E Evaluate/document emerging network technologies to establish future directions.
E Work with tools and procedures to monitor, analyze, and baseline voice and data networks.
E Provide assistance to outsourced vendors and IT related internal projects
E 24X7 After Hours Support on a team rotation (1 week per month)
E Support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and testing
E Manage Cisco Unified Communications systems
E Manage Cisco / Tandberg Video Conferencing systems
E Manage Cisco Contact Center
E Manage Cisco Call Manager
E Voice dial plan setup and maintenance
